IRCTC Launches Online Railway Retiring Room Booking

Online railway retiring room booking is the new service launched by Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Now in addition to the manual booking, passengers can book railway retiring rooms online.

Any Indian railway passenger having a confirmed ticket or a RAC reservation can do a online booking of retiring room for all the passengers listed on the ticket. Online booking of railway retiring room can be done for e-ticket, I-ticket, Tatkal ticket and even counter ticket. Only PNR number is required for online booking of retiring rooms.

The facility of online retiring room booking is launched on both the website of IRCTC.

  2. Check the facility at IRCTC's online ticket booking website www.irctc.co.in
New account registration and IRCTC login or any kind of registration is not required to avail this new service.

What is Railway Retiring Room?

Railways Retiring Rooms are rooms which are available on Railway Stations across India, They are available in Single, Double and Dormitory type of occupancy with AC and Non AC combination.

This facility is available on only few railway stations of Mumbai. List of Stations Currently available for online Reservation of Railways Retiring Rooms.

  3. MUMBAI CST
  4. KALYAN JN
  5. LOKMANYATILAK T

Steps for online railway retiring room booking

  1. Open www.railtourismindia.com
  2. Under Accommodation menu, select Retiring Rooms option.
  3. It will present you the retiring room booking page.
  4. Now enter your PNR number and search and book the retiring room. 
  5. The duration of retiring room booking is minimum 12 Hrs to maximum 48 Hrs.

What is the rules for Cancellation of Retiring Rooms?

  1. Deduction of 10% on cancellation in advance of 48 hrs of the day of occupation.
  2. Deduction of 50% on cancellation within a period of less than 48 hrs to the day of occupation.
  3. Deduction of 100% on cancellation on the day of occupation.
  4. Passenger wise cancellation is not allowed , only Room wise cancellation is allowed.
  5. If more than one room/dormitory is booked and cancellation is being done for few room/dormitory then cancellation rule 1, 2 and 3 will be applicable for room/dormitory as per case.

What would be the retiring room Accommodation?

  1. For one passenger one Single Bed Room or One Double Bed Room or One Bed in Dormitory can be can be allocated.
  2. For two passenger One Double Bed Room or Two Bed in Dormitory can be allocated.
  3. For three passenger (one Double Bed Room + One Single Bed Room) or Three Bed in Dormitory can be allocated.
  4. For four passenger Two Double Bed Room or Four bed in Dormitory can be allocated.
  5. For five passenger Two Double Bed Room or Five bed in Dormitory can be allocated.
  6. For Six passenger Two Double Bed Room or Six bed in Dormitory can be allocated.

How is service tax being charged?

  1. Levying of service tax @12.36% of the tariff of the room/bed.
  2. Levying of rate of service tax is configurable and managed by terminal application.
  3. Room and slot wise service tax is applicable.
  4. If the tariff of the room/bed is equal or greater than rupees five hundred for 12 hrs slot then service tax will be applicable.
  5. If the tariff of the room/bed is equal or greater than rupees one thousand for 24 hrs slot then service tax will be applicable.
  6. For 36 and 48 hrs slot levying of service tax will be applicable as per above two points.

How is IRCTC Service Charge being charged?

IRCTC Service Charge of Rs.20/- upto 24hrs for a Retiring Room and Rs.10/- upto 24hrs for a Dormitory Bed and of Rs.40/- from 24hrs to 48hrs for a Retiring Room and Rs.20/- from 24hrs to 48 hrs for a Dormitory Bed.
