IRCTChas launched NGET IRCTC login and new next generation e-ticketing system with. IRCTC from past few months was trying hard to improve its website and finally has done it. There are a lot of changes in IRCTC NGET e-ticketing system:

A whole new interface inspired by old one, but still under up-gradation.
IRCTC Login is now supported by Captcha, now all users has to type a unique set of characters to login the NGET website.
New Journey planner to plan and book tickets.

All user's IRCTC account are being upgraded to the next generation e-ticketing system. Every user when log in first time to the NGET system get this message "Dear Customer, You have been successfully migrated to Next Generation e-Ticketing website. To Print/Cancel/FileTDR of your old transactions done before migration, click "My Transactions" below. To book e-tickets , click "Proceed For Booking". After migration new transactions can be viewed in "Booked Ticket History" like the given below.

When you log in to NGET IRCTC e-ticketing system, there will be three options that is Proceed for Booking - Click on this if you want to book tickets, Update Profile - to update your profile and My Transaction - to view your previous tickets and transaction.

This next generation website is composed of many new feature like all new journey planner to book tickets also now users will automatically log out of IRCTC account after every three minutes minimize the load on the website. Previously, users were getting session expired error.

So log in to your IRCTC account through NGET IRCTC login form and migrate to the IRCTC next generation e-ticketing system to get advantage of all new set of features and a much faster system, you will enjoy booking tickets now.

The next generation eTicketing system of IRCTC is also available and accessible on same URL www.irctc.co.in.
Open your web browser and type www.irctc.co.in in the URL box and submit.
You will find a new IRCTC login form just like above in the middle of the website. Type your registered user id in the user id field.

Now the new thing the Captcha entry. Now you have to type a given set of characters in the Captcha field. These set of characters are generated randomly and every user get a different set of characters. if you have problem in reading the characters you can press refresh button given along with the captcha characters to get a new set of characters. Now log in to your IRCTC account. You need an account to operate this website.
On successful log in to your account, the 'Plan my journey' page will be presented to you.
Now provide your start city and destination city to find the connecting trains.
Provide your date of journey and press submit button.
A list of trains between the two stations will be present in Journey Planner to you.
Click your class of journey to find the available berth in that class. You can also select different quota like Tatkal to find seat availability under that quota.

Follow these steps to check berth availability through Indian Railways website.

Open Indian Railways website http://www.indianrail.gov.in/ in your web browser.
Click on 'Train Berth Availability' option in the services section.
Trains/Fare/Accommodation Availability Between Stations page will be presented.
Now select your start city and destination city.
Select class of journey and date of journey.
You can filter your search by providing departure and arrival time of the trains.
You can also select type of train like Shatabdi or Rajdhani etc.
IRCTC seat availability is hot exercise during morning and evening when people left office for home.
Click on get details to get the list of trains available according to your enquiry.
Select your train to check the seat availability in that train. And click on 'Get Fare' to find the fare in the selected train.

Tatkal Rules changes every budget, as per announcement made in the Indian Railway Budget 2013-14, following are the Tatkal rules of IRCTC.

The Tatkal Charges have been fixed as a percentage of fare at the rate of 10% of basic fare for second class and 30% of basic fare for all other classes subject to minimum and maximum as given in the table below.

The above charges will be levied uniformly both in peak period & non-peak periods.
Tatkal tickets will be issued for actual distance of travel, instead of end-to-end, subject to the distance restriction applicable to the train. The same Tatkal berth/seat may be booked in multiple legs till preparation of charts. At the time of preparation of charts, unutilized portion may be released to the General RAC/Waiting list passengers.
Tatkal facility is also available in Executive Class of Shatabadi Express trains also, by earmarking 10% of the accommodation available i.e. 5 seats per coach.
Tatkal booking opens at 10 AM on One days in advance actual date of journey excluding date of journey w.e.f. of 10.07.2012(commercial circular no:43 of 2012). e.g. for train leaving on 6th, Tatkal Booking will Commence at 10 AM on 5th.
No duplicate Tatkal tickets shall be issued. Duplicate Tatkal tickets shall be issued only in exceptional cases on payment of full fare including Tatkal charges.
Tatkal tickets shall be issued only on production of one of the ten prescribed proofs of identity shown under (as mentioned in Commercial Circular No.68 of 2012 issued vide letter No.2011/TG-I/20/P/ID dated 01.11.2012) as per procedure explained below:-
1. Voter Photo identity card issued by Election Commission of India.
2. Passport
3. PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.
4. Driving Licence issued by RTO.
5. Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State Government.
6. Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students.
7. Nationalized Bank Passbook with photograph.
8. Credit cards issued by banks with laminated photograph.
9. Unique Identification Card "Aadhaar".
10. Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertaking of State/Central Government, District Administration, Municipal bodies and Penchant Administration.
- For this purpose, a self attested photo copy of the proof of identity of anyone passenger shall be attached to the requisition slip.
- The details of the identity proof shall be captured by the system and indicated on the reserved tickets as well on the reservation chart.
- It will not be mandatory for the passenger(s) to go to the counter to book the Tatkal ticket, however, the proof will have to be sent in the aforementioned manner.
- During the journey, the passenger, whose identity card number has been indicated on the ticket, will have to produce original proof of identity indicated on the ticket, failing which all the passengers booked on the ticket shall be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly. Indication will come on the ticket regarding carrying the same original proof of identity during the journey, as indicated on the ticket.
- If the passenger whose identity card number is indicated on the ticket is not traveling, all other passengers booked on that ticket, if found traveling in train, will be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly.
Agents / RTSAs/Web service agents/Web agents of IRCTC are restricted from the booking Tatkal tickets between 1000 hours and 1200 hours. This restriction shall be enforced through frequent inspection at the counters. The agents both web service agents and web agents shall also be restricted from booking Tatkal tickets on the internet between 1000 hours and 1200 hours.
Even for internet booking for Tatkal tickets, the passenger shall enter the identity proof type and number, which is to be used for travel. These details shall be printed on the ERS/indicated on the VRM/MRM as well as in the reservation chart.
It will be possible to book a maximum of only four passengers per PNR for Tatkal tickets.
The web services agents of IRCTC will be permitted to book only one Tatkal ticket per train per day on the internet.
The facility of change of name is not permitted on the bookings made under Tatkal Rules
TDRs are not being issued for waiting list tickets.

REFUNDS

No refund will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets/duplicate tatkal ticket except in case of circumstances mentioned in para 2 of instructions contained in Commercial Circular no. 53 of 2006 issued wide letter no. 2006/TGII/ 20/P/Tatkal, dated 30.06.2006. However, full refund of fare and tatkal charges will be granted on the tickets booked under Tatkal scheme in the following circumstances :-

If the train is delayed by more than 3 hours at the journey originating point of the passenger & not the boarding point if the passenger's journey originating point and boarding point are different.
If the train is to run on a diverted route and passenger is not willing to travel.
If the train is to run on diverted route and boarding station or the destination or both the stations are not on the diverted route.
In case of non attachment of coach in which Tatkal accommodation has been earmarked and the passenger has not been provided accommodation in the same class.
If the party has been accommodated in lower class and does not want to travel. In case the party travels in lower class, the passenger will be given refund of difference of fare and also the difference of Tatkal charges, if any.

IRCTC has done some thing special for its passengers, it has introduced Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) system for IRCTC online ticket booking though Citibank. Indian Railway ticket booking on EMI is a beneficial for passengers who travels a lot or go on unplanned long distance journey and booking Tatkal tickets on premium trains. This year IRCTC has increased the fare of trains and booking tickets on premium trains become much more costlier due to huge demand during festival season. Also the booking tickets on EMI is beneficial for booking tourist trains offered by IRCTC at IRCTCrailtourism.
This new facility is not of much benefit to those who are not frequent travelers, although they can use the facility but it will create an extra burden on them for paying monthly installments for booked tickets.

The EMI facility for ticket booking is available only on IRCTC online ticket booking.
So log in to IRCTC website using your account.
Search for your train and plan your journey and make payment for your IRCTC reservation.
Now you will see an additional option of EMI payment besides the credit card booking, debit card booking and Net banking options.
If you click on the EMI option then you will be asked to share credit card details. After filling in those details, the entire ticket amount will be deducted from your credit card account and transferred to the IRCTC account. Then you have to pay that payment to the bank in monthly installments.

As of now the EMI facility is available only for passengers having Citibank credit cards. It is useless for a large number of people who don't have City bank credit card. Indian Railways has tied-up with Citibank to offer EMI facility for IRCTC online ticket booking.

There are only 12.3% Citibank credit card holders in India. The IRCTC should have tied up with other banks for offer EMI option. It needs to tie-up with more banks, the three largest issuers of credit cards in the country, which account for 58.9% of India’s credit card base especially HDFC, ICICI and the State Bank of India.

Now enter details in IRCTC registration form as required by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism corporation to identify and verify you when you forget your account password and request for a new one. Also enter your personal details.
Enter your proper address details, it is very important when you book I-ticket through IRCTC account. Because Indian Railways Catering and Tourism corporation send tickets by courier to the address you provide. Although you can provide a different address at the time of train ticket booking but it will help you to book ticket faster at the time of Tatkal ticket booking. Enter the verification code as given in the image. If you are unable to read it properly you can use refresh button on IRCTC new registration form to get a new code.
Click on submit button of IRCTC registration form to complete the account registration process. You can also use the reset button to clear the form so that you can enter all the details again, if required.

You will be presented with a terms and condition page click on Accept button to continue the new registration process.

Now check your email account and mobile that you have provided in IRCTC registration form to verify them.

Enter your mobile verification code received through SMS and click on submit button to activate your new account. If you received multiple messages with different mobile verification codes, the recent verification code has to be used to activate your account.

Once you verify your email account and mobile, your IRCTC new account registration process is complete. After successful activation of your account, you can change your password through ‘Change Password’ link or you can use the same password which is received through email.

Now press 1 to confirm your PNR number.

While talking to the Customer Service Executive, please tell your 10 digit PNR number.

You can also set destination alert using SMS 139 service.
JUST send following SMS from the mobile on which you want to activate Alert: ALERT<PNR NUMBER>
You will receive a confirmation message on your mobile as “DESTINATION ALERT call has been set on your mobile number for <Destination Station Name>.

Steps for Activating Wake- up Alarm on 139 IVR

Dial 139 from the mobile on which you want to set Wake-up Alarm.
Choose your preferred language.
Select option 7 from the IVR main menu.
Press - 1 for wake-up Alarm.
Enter your 10 digit PNR number.
Press 1 to confirm your PNR Number.
Enter STD code on which you want Activate your wake-up Alarm or Press (*) to contact IRCTC customer care executive.
Wake-up Alarm shall be set for the given PNR number, you will also receive a confirmation message on your mobile as “WAKE-UP ALARM call has been set on your mobile number for < Destination Station Name >”.

While talking to the Customer Service Executive, please tell your 10 digit PNR number.
Please reconfirm your mobile number on which Wake-up Alarm is to be set.

Applicable Charges for the IRCTC Destination and Wake-up Alarm service

According to IRCTC following call charges are applicable for calls received on 139:

Mobile: Rs. 1.20 for a pulse of 60 seconds for calls from Metro cities while for calls from non metro cities/areas the charges are Rs. 2 for a pulse of 60 seconds.
SMS: SMS (Pull) cost is Rs. 3 per SMS.

E-Ticket booking on IRCTC website is very easy and quick. Instead of waiting in long ques at railway reservation counter every one should register an account with IRCTC and start booking e-ticket online. It is an hassle free and smooth process and a very unique experience. You will love booking ticket online because you can book ticket any where and any time you like.
The e-ticket booking is explained for you in very simple steps below along with pictures just to help you.

Registration is free on IRCTC website. Register an IRCTC account if you don't have.
IRCTC Login by entering your user name and password which you used to register an account on IRCTC website.
The "Plan my travel" page appears before you after successful login.
Select the From/To station correctly according to the route of the train for which you are booking e-ticket.
Now select e-Ticket option as explained in picture below.

To find the train list, click on "Submit" button.
Now a list of trains appear which show the number of trains available for that route.
If you wish to know the route and the timings, click on the train name under the "List of Trains" option.
To check the fare, click on class available in the selected train under "List of Trains". It will show fare according to type of class selected. The fare appearing is for a single adult Passenger including the service charges charged by IRCTC.
To select the train from the train list to book e-ticket, click on the type of class available in the selected train.
When you will click on the class in the train list then it will show the train details with seat availability.
To book e-tickets, click on "Book Now" button under availability option.
And if you wish to select other train, click on "RESET" button.
Ticket reservation page appears; check whether the train name and the station names displayed on the top of the page are same as desired by you.
Enter the names of the Passengers, age, sex and berth preference for each Passenger. The maximum length of names should be restricted to 15 characters. If the Passenger is a senior citizen (60 years and above for male and 58 years and above for female) and wants to avail Senior Citizens' concession (40% of Base fare for male and 50% of base fare for female), click the box provided. Senior citizens are requested to carry some proof of age in original during their journey. A sample form is reproduced below. (The allotment of your required berth depends on the availability).
The ticket details, availability of tickets at the particular time and the fare, including the service charge, appear on the screen, along with the payment option Follow the instructions.
"Payment Option" Select the Payment Mode and Bank From the Drop Down List.
Click on the "Make Payment" It redirect to selected Bank Site.
After successful payment and booking of accommodations, the User is shown the ticket confirmation details along with a “Print Reservation Slip” Button. On clicking the button ERS is shown with an option to print.
The customer can subsequently also print Electronic Reservation Slip from the 'BOOKED TICKETS' link on the left navigation bar.

IRCTC login problems are usual, as there is a huge traffic to the servers of the website during morning hours specially during Tatkal timings. IRCTC changes Tatkal tickets booking timings

The Ministry of Railways has changed the timings for the IRCTC booking of Tatkal tickets in AC and non-AC classes for all trains, starting today, to reduce the load on the ticketing website servers and offline booking windows at railway stations.

According to IRCTC, the new timings for booking tickets for AC classes will begin at 10 am onwards on the one day before the start of the journey from the originating station. And the timing for non-AC classes starts at 11 am after start of the AC classes bookings.
