Last year the IRCTC had launched its e-commerce site in partnership with Yebhi.com.  IRCTC’s online shoppingsite powered by Yebhi was hosted atshop.irctc.co.inand for sale of clothing, accessories, home decor and electronics.

But the online shopping store of the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has closed, because IRCTC shopping portal private partner Yebhi.com not extending its contract. A year ago Yebhi and IRCTC started the online shopping portal to sale the products under IRCTC shopping brand name with a revenue sharing model.

IRCTC had plans to convert its online ticket booking traffic into customers for IRCTC shopping portal.

Yebhi partnered with IRCTC assuming that they will able to convert IRCTC's huge traffic into sales but according to Yebhi.com it failed to convert the traffic to direct sales due to poor conversion rates.

But according to IRCTC it was just a one year contract with Yebhi. IRCTC gets close to 1.2 million visits a day on its site, generating 180 million transactions every year, the largest for any travel or e-commerce website in India.

IRCTC and Yebhi partnership was based on a revenue sharing model where Yebhi was handling all the inventory of IRCTC shopping portal and sharing 2 to 10 percent of revenue with IRCTC.

Key reason for closure of IRCTC Shooping portal is the space meant for promoting Yebhi products given to other advertisers. The online shopping e-store of IRCTC is not functional any longer, though the contract expires at the end of August.

But IRCTC has not given up and planning to set up IRCTC shopping portal with multiple e-commerce players.

IRCTC has recently launched a new scheme called IRCTC e-Wallet. Under this scheme you can make an advance deposit with the IRCTC and you can use your balance in your e-Wallet account to book tickets.
If you haven't registered with this scheme then check thisIRCTC e-wallet Registration information guide.

e-Wallet, eWallet IRCTC Tatkal, eWALLET Registration, IRCTC eWALLET, IRCTC eWallet Review, IRCTC eWallet Reviews, IRCTC eWallet Tatkal

According to IRCTC main advantages of this scheme are:

  1. It will provide hassle free and secure transaction while booking tickets. Most of time when you book ticket, you must have noticed that most of transactions get failed and you have to wait 2-4 days to get the money back. Also you have to keep tracking whether the refund has been made or not.
  2. IRCTC e-Wallet will fasten your ticket booking process because you don’t have to go through payment gateway for payment approval.
  3. It will save payment gateway transaction charges.
  4. It will reduce the dependency on banks. If your bank is temporarily out of service you cannot book ticket through normal payment methods but this issue get resolved with this scheme.
  5. E-wallet account is easily manageable online. You can add money to your e-Wallet when ever required.

IRCTC eWallet review by users who have registered with this scheme:

  1. There is a problem while registering with the scheme, Even after providing correct PAN number and First Name on PAN card, users getting error "First Name incorrect", said Nirmal Kumar and Suba, Madhan.
  2. According to Saurabh, Murthy and others, it is useless if you cannot book ticket between 8 AM to 12 PM, because these are the peek hours to book Tatkal tickets.
  3. There is a registration fee of Rs. 250 for IRCTC e-Wallet scheme. “From what I have heard so far, this is a total waste unless you travel a lot. Registration fees of 250 non-refundable and 5 or 10 Rs per ticket additional. This will probably be more than what a credit charge charges. And on top of it, can’t be used between 8 and 12. So total waste” said Krishnaraj.
  4. Also most of users doubt that how much someone will save by preventing payment gateway charges.
We conducted a poll for two months on IRCTC e-wallet new service and the results are below.

Is IRCTC eWallet Useful?

Many people are sharing their opinion with us. If you have also registered with the IRCTC e-Wallet scheme please share your opinion with us here, we are getting only negative reviews about this scheme.
