IRCTC eWallet Reviews

IRCTC has recently launched a new scheme called IRCTC e-Wallet. Under this scheme, you can make an advance deposit with the IRCTC and you can use your balance in your e-Wallet account to book tickets.

According to IRCTC main advantages of this scheme are:

  1. It will provide hassle-free and secure transactions while booking tickets. Most of the time when you book a ticket, you must have noticed that most of the transactions get failed and you have to wait 2-4 days to get the money back. Also, you have to keep track of whether the refund has been made or not.
  2. IRCTC e-Wallet will fasten your ticket booking process because you don’t have to go through a payment gateway for payment approval.
  3. It will save payment gateway transaction charges.
  4. It will reduce dependency on banks. If your bank is temporarily out of service you cannot book a ticket through normal payment methods but this issue gets resolved with this scheme.
  5. e-Wallet account is easily manageable online. You can add money to your e-Wallet whenever required.

IRCTC eWallet review by users who have registered with this scheme:

  1. There is a problem while registering with the scheme, Even after providing correct PAN number and First Name on PAN card, users getting error "First Name incorrect", said Nirmal Kumar and SubaMadhan.
  2. According to SaurabhMurthy, and others, it is useless if you cannot book a ticket from 8 AM to 12 PM because these are the peak hours to book Tatkal tickets.
  3. There is a registration fee of Rs. 250 for the IRCTC e-Wallet scheme. “From what I have heard so far, this is a total waste unless you travel a lot. Registration fees of 250 non-refundable and 5 or 10 Rs per ticket additional. This will probably be more than what a credit charge charges. And on top of it, it can’t be used between 8 and 12. So total waste” said Krishnaraj.
  4. Also, most of the users doubt that how much someone will save by preventing payment gateway charges.
We conducted a poll for two months on the IRCTC e-Wallet new service and the results are below.

Solutions to IRCTC Login Problems

Login problems are usual. As there is huge traffic to the servers of the website during morning hours. Especially during Tatkal timings. There may be other reasons also that may prevent you from logging in to your account. Below is an attempt to list out the reasons which may be causing the problem along with its solution.
If you are facing the IRCTC Login problem to log in then you can follow these steps to log in to your IRCTC account.

  1. Always check that you logged in to the secured IRCTC login page https://www.irctc.co.in.
  2. Always remember your username and password.
  3. You can IRCTC login reset password but you can't reset or request your username from IRCTC. If you have forgotten IRCTC login id then you can recover it from your email account by checking the oldest email received from "ticketadmin@irctc.co.in". It is the very first email sent to you after successful account registration. If you can not find that email from IRCTC then the second method is to fill the account registration form once again with the same email id. In this case, the IRCTC will not allow you to register a new account with the same email id but will show you the username linked to your email.
  4. Always maintain a single account. It will help you to remember the correct username and password all the time. And also maintaining many IRCTC accounts is against terms and conditions.
  5. Enter your correct username and password.
  6. Both username and password are mandatory fields, so always check if you are not missing one of them. Most of the time it happens that the password gets typed in the username field. Which is very unsecured as anyone can see your password who is watching you while logging in to the website.
  7. Always check. The case of the characters and special characters used in the password typed are correct.
  8. If you have forgotten your password. Then you can reset it if you know the username, click on forgot password link. Provide your correct username then click the proceed button. A security question asked to you, answer it to get reset password emailed to you.

What is PNR and PNR status?

Indian railway assigns a unique number to each passenger when a ticket is booked. The full form of PNR is Passenger Name Record. This number is assigned to each and every passenger to maintain his/her details. Indian railways maintain these details for a certain period of time. This helps the railway to process various refunds, to know the current status, to reply to various inquiries from other departments regarding the passenger, etc., it means Indian railways identifies a passenger on the basis of his/her PNR. So, while traveling by train, the PNR is most important. For example, it happens much time and often with most of the people that their ticket is lost. In such case, if you have a valid ID card and you know your PNR Number then that's enough for you to travel through the train, no one can prevent you from boarding the train if you have informed the loss of ticket to the station master.

      How to check PNR status?

To check your latest reservation status you need only your PNR number. Just enter PNR number in our PNR Reservation Status Check tool and get the status.

The detailed step by step process to check the reservation status is provided along with our easy and effective tool.

Why you should check PNR status?

PNR status inquiry is mostly done to know the latest reservation status of a passenger or a group of passengers, by the group of passenger we mean that the passengers who are traveling in a group with a common ticket like members of a family.

At the time of booking ticket, most of the people don't get a confirmed reservation when the ticket is booked. Such passenger usually gets a waiting list or RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) number.
By waiting list, Indian Railway means that a passenger with a waiting list number has to wait until someone cancels his/her reservation. The waiting list passengers are not allowed to board the train until they have an RAC or confirmed reservation ticket. The waiting list number of a passenger decrease by one when someone else who booked a ticket for you with the same train and same class, cancel a ticket. The waitlist passengers are moved to RAC reservation status and then to confirmed reservation status. The PNR status update and the process continue until the chart is prepared.

By RAC Indian Railway, means that you get a confirmed reservation when someone else who booked a ticket for you with the same train and same class, cancel a ticket. A passenger with RAC reservation status is allowed to board the train and is allotted a seat to sit.

So, now we know that the reservation status of a passenger is not stable until he/she gets a confirmed reservation status and therefore it becomes necessary for a person with Waitlist/RAC ticket to keep on checking his/her PNR status.

      Who can check PNR status?

Anyone who has been allotted a PNR Number by Indian Railway and has a pending journey can check his/her status. To check the PNR status only PNR number is required therefore anyone who has your PNR number can check your reservation status.

Where you can check PNR status?

You can check your reservation status with our easy PNR Reservation Status Check tool.

Otherwise, you can check your reservation status on Indian Railway website, or at IRCTC website or at IRES (Indian Railway Enquiry System) website.
The PNR status mobile facility is also available, you can check PNR status through SMS, to check PNR status via SMS send your PNR no to 139 and in return, you will get your PNR status SMS.

STEP 2: Read the IRCTC Individual Registration General Information Carefully

It is a very small step but very important to complete the account registration process successfully. If you avoid this then you may not be able to register an account or even may get your registered account deactivated after some time.

picture of irctc individual registration form general message

We have categorized the general information displayed at the beginning of the individual registration form as step number two. In this step, you have to read and understand the following two very important information messages given on the form.
      1. GARBAGE/JUNK VALUES IN PROFILE MAY LEAD TO DEACTIVATION
      2. Please use a valid E-Mail ID and mobile number in registration.

GARBAGE/JUNK VALUES IN PROFILE MAY LEAD TO DEACTIVATION

It is very important to fill the correct information in the account registration form and maintain it in your profile account always, otherwise, IRCTC will deactivate your account when it detects junk and garbage values in your account profile.

IRCTC does it many times to clear the garbage account profile from its system, to prevent unauthorized access to the online ticket booking system so that others can enjoy the service fully and securely.

So, if you are new and just want to test the account registration form, even then don't enter junk values in the various options in the form. Many people do it to check the working of the form and later forgets to update the details.

      Hence, please avoid it.

Please use a valid E-Mail ID and mobile number in registration.

It is also very important to enter valid email id and mobile number in the registration form. Because the account activation link is sent to the email id you will provide and an OTP to verify the mobile number will be sent to the mobile number you will provide. If you provide false information or enter the incorrect email id or mobile number then you will not be able to complete the registration as you will not get the activation link or the OTP.

So, please enter your email id and mobile number carefully.

STEP 3: Select IRCTC Login ID/Username and Password

Now in this step, you have to select an IRCTC Login ID/Username and Password. Login id and username are the same things. Both these are mandatory to enter in the form. The username and password you select are very important, let's discuss why these are so important, one by one.

      irctc login id and password

      Username

It a red star marked option, therefore it is mandatory to enter this detail. Whenever you will access your account after registration, you have to provide username/login id. So select it carefully so that you can remember it always. Once you forget it, then it will be a bit difficult for you to get it back. And also you will not be able to reuse the email id and mobile number linked to your username.

You can enter a username between 3 to 35 characters. And only the letter and numbers are allowed.

If you enter an existing username registered by you or any other user then the system will alert you that the username is already registered and you have to select something else.

And if your username is unique then the system will show a correct check-in green color like the picture shown below.

      picture of irctc username option

      Password

Now next step is to select a password. It is also a red star marked option, therefore it is also mandatory and you have to enter it. Although you can reset it later, still it is very important to remember the password you entered the first time during account registration so that you can access your account first time.

      picture of irctc password option

The password you enter must be a minimum of 8 characters in length and a maximum of 15 characters in length. And the password must contain at least one small and one capital alphabet and one numeric digit.

Following are some good examples of correct passwords:
      • Raju2018
      • Rajeshkumar2018
And following are some example of incorrect passwords:
      • Raj18 - it is less than 8 characters in length.
      • Rajeshkumar@2018 - it is more than 15 characters in length and contains a special character.
      • rajeshkumarhindustani - it doesn't have a capital alphabet, a numeric digit and more than 15 characters in length.

      Verify Password

It is also a red star marked option, therefore it is also mandatory and you have to enter it. It is just to check and verify that you know and remember the password that you have entered in the "Password" option. The value you have entered in the "Verify Password" option should match with the value entered in the "Password" option.
      picture of confirm password option

STEP 4: Select Security Question To Reset IRCTC Password

Now the next step is to select a security question. It is also a red star marked option and it means it also compulsory. Now you must be thinking that why it is required? It is very important to select a security question and remember it because the same security question is asked to you when you try to reset your password.

If you forgot your security question you selected at the time of account registration then you will not be able to answer it correctly and simultaneously will not be able to reset and change your password.

picture of irctc security question and answer

      Security Question

You can choose any one of the following security questions:
      • What is your pet name?
      • What was the name of your first school?
      • Who was your childhood hero?
      • What is your favorite past-time?
      • What is your all-time favorite sports team?
      • What is your father's middle name?
      • What make was your first car or bike?
      • Where did you first meet your spouse?

Whatever security question you select please remember it or write it down somewhere in your main diary.

      Answer

Now as obvious if the security question option is mandatory then its answer should be. And hence answer option is also a red star marked option and is compulsory to enter.

Whatever question you select in the security question option, answer it in this option and also remember it as it very important and you will not be able to change it later.

STEP 5: Select Preferred Language For IRCTC Website

It is a small step in the registration process and can help you a lot in your user experience of the website. In this step, you will be asked to select a preferred language. The language you select will be set as your primary language in your profile and in the same language, the content of the IRCTC website will be shown to you.

picture of irctc website preferred language option

You can select one of the following two languages:
      1. English
      2. Hindi

STEP 6: Enter Basic Personal Details

Now you have to enter your personal details in the registration form. We have divided the personal details section into two parts because it is a little bit complex. The first part is simpler and part two is a little difficult because it requires more attention.

picture of irctc registration form personal details section

Part one of the personal details section has the following options:
      • Name
      • Middle Name
      • Last Name
      • Gender

      • Marital Status
Let's understand these options one by one.

      Name

It is a red star marked option, therefore, it is compulsory to enter in the registration form. Instead of a complete name, you should only enter your first name in this option.
For example, Rajesh is named if your complete name is Rajesh Kumar Sharma.

For example, Kumar is a middle name if your complete name is Rajesh Kumar Sharma.

      Last Name

It is also an optional option. You can enter your last name or sir name in this option.
For example, Sharma is the last name if your complete name is Rajesh Kumar Sharma.

There is also an important message shown on the form which is like this:
"Info! Please provide your exact name as per Aadhaar to avail Aadhaar based benefits on IRCTC eTicketing website."

      Gender

It is a red star marked option, therefore, it is compulsory to select it. You don't have to type anything in this option but there three selections out of which you have to select anyone. These selections are:
      • Male
      • Female
      • Transgender
You can select the gender you belong.

      Date of Birth

It is also a red star marked option, therefore, it is mandatory to fill it. You will not be allowed to type your date of birth but instead, you will be provided with a calendar after clicking on the option. In the calendar, you can select a date that is your correct date of birth.

      Occupation

It is also a compulsory option as a red star mark is shown along with it. It is a drop-down option in which you have to select a predefined option provided. These options are:
      • GOVERNMENT
      • PUBLIC
      • PRIVATE
      • PROFESSIONAL
      • SELF EMPLOYED

      • Married
      • Unmarried
Select married if you are married otherwise select unmarried.

STEP 7: Enter Other Personal Details

The earlier step was quite simple, now we will learn about the second part of the personal details section which needs your more attention. In this section you find the following options:
      • Country
      • Email
      • ISD-Mobile
      • Nationality
picture of country, email, mobile and nationality options of personal details section

Let's understand this one by one.

      Country

It is a red star marked option, therefore, it is a compulsory option. By default "India" is selected, you can select any other country you belong to.

      Email

It is also a red star marked option and is a compulsory and very important option. Please enter your correct email address in this option because you will receive an account activation link through email on the same email id which you provide in this option. So type your email very carefully because if you enter incorrect email here then you will not get any second chance to correct it.

      ISD-Mobile

It is also a red star marked option and therefore compulsory and very important too. This option has two text boxes. The first text box is to enter the ISD code of your country and it should match with the country you have to select the country option. This option is provided for account registration for international users.

Info! International/NRI users with ISD code other than 91 have to pay Registration fees after successful registration i.e. on the first login. Please note that the registration fee for International/NRI users is Rs. 100 + GST.

If you have selected "India" then ISD code 91 will come automatically and you will not be allowed to edit it. But if you select any other country then you can enter it manually by typing. In the second text box, you have to enter your mobile number.

Enter the ISD code and mobile number correctly because IRCTC will send an OTP on this mobile number to verify the mobile number. All future communication from IRCTC is done on this mobile number only. If you enter an incorrect mobile number then you will not be able to complete the registration process.

      Nationality

It is also a red star marked option and therefore compulsory. You can specify your nationality in this option. You have to select a country of which you are a citizen of. This option is different from the country option because you have to enter the mobile number of the country you have selected in the country option.

STEP 8: Enter Residential Address Details

In this step, you have to fill your correct residential address in the registration form. This step was very crucial when i-tickets were allowed to book on the IRCTC website. But from this financial year (2018-2019) i-ticket booking is discontinued. I-tickets booked from the system were sent by courier to the address provided in this form by the user and therefore it was important.

picture of residential address section to register account in irctc

Ticket cancellation from IRCTC new website has become confusing with the complete change in the IRCT website. Many users are not able to find out various common options on the website and therefore it has become difficult for them to use it. Thus most of the users are feeling helpless and not happy with the new changes in IRCTC cancel ticket process. But to help you I have listed out some of the difficulties faced by most IRCTC account users in ticket cancellation from the mobile app and checking IRCTC ticket cancellation charges calculator.

The common issues faced in railway ticket cancellation are:
      1. Not able to log in to the new website.

      3. Don't know how to cancel train ticket booked at counter
      4. Not able to print tickets on a computer website
      5. Don't know how to generate e-ticket SMS again.

Therefore the users want to get switched to the older version of the website. IRCTC did allow it in the starting when it decided to launch the new website but later forced everyone to use the new website, don't know why? And also blocked the website outside India. International users are not able to access the new website.

Now let's see how to resolve the major common issues which confused the website users.

How to print and do ticket cancellation from IRCTC new website on a Mobile

Cancellation, printing and other activities that you can do with a ticket are very simple but little confusing on the mobile website, to do it successfully just follow these steps:

      6. The system will show you the complete details of that ticket. Now check carefully on the top right corner of the ticket details box there is a three dot option. Just TAP on it.

      7. Now you will get all the options like cancel ticket, print ticket, get SMS, get PNR status etc. TAP on any option you like to complete the action.

Picture of list of tickets on booked ticket history page
      5. Just find the ticket want to check details of and CLICK on it. Please pay attention the ticket booked list contains all the details of that ticket which confuses that we can only see those details only but it's not so, you have to click on the ticket details box to unlock the cancellation, print, get SMS etc options like the picture below.
Picture cancel and print ticket options on booked ticket history
      6. Now you will get all the options like cancel ticket, print ticket, get SMS, get PNR status etc. Click on Cancel ticket option to cancel the ticket. Or click on the Print e-ticket option to print the ticket. Note: please check whether the popup from the new website is blocked or not, if the popup is blocked then it will show an icon in your address bar and will not allow you to print the ticket. To allow it you have to click that icon and has to select always allow popup option.
